Preparing for Your Synthetic Turf Installation
The first step in the process of creating your custom oasis is meeting with one of our project consultants, who will walk you through the initial site evaluation and design discussion. During this phase, we will provide samples of our artificial turf products to let you see and feel all our options and select your favorite. Once you’ve made your selection, we then schedule your installation date!
Once we arrive to begin your project, our team of expert artificial turf installers removes any materials that would interfere with your installation, including soil, sod, or weeds, to name a few. Then, we rough-grade the installation area and access your plumbing and electrical systems to ensure these are mapped out and secured during installation. Once this is complete, we then cut and cap all sprinkler valves in the installation area to ensure that your irrigation system runs seamlessly and move on to installing the sub-base.
Adding an Artificial Turf Weed Barrier
If any sod needs to be removed during installation, we will apply a liquid herbicide along with a granular pre and post emergent to provide the best protection possible from regrowth of weeds and grass. We use a combination of these applications to protect the integrity of the sub-base material as opposed to using a weed fabric.
Creating the Foundation
Our team utilizes decomposed granite to establish a strong base for your synthetic turf installation. Performing this step requires great attention to detail, and our team of expert synthetic turf installers is highly experienced in executing this. We then perform any necessary contouring for your space and complete this process by watering the area to provide the best foundation compaction.
Having a level base is an essential component of any successful synthetic turf installation in order to provide proper drainage, ensuring that fluids will be directed away from your home and routed to designated drainage areas installed during the installation process. Not only does a level base provide necessary drainage, but it also prevents tripping hazards by avoiding divots! Then, we solidify the base by vibrating the decomposed granite surface, making it easier when implementing non-galvanized nails to secure your artificial turf installation.
Applying and Securing Your Synthetic Turf
Our team of synthetic turf installation experts will establish the perimeter around your installation and then align your turf by utilizing available straight or perpendicular edges. Once the turf is properly aligned, then our team secures the square edges with temporary nails while maneuvering the rest as needed during the installation.
As every installation is customized to your property, we then trim the artificial turf to match the shape of your yard. During installation, we overcut the turf by one inch along all edges to give us the space needed to tuck the synthetic turf along the perimeter edges. We then align everything and secure the installation by implementing permanent nails through your synthetic turf, hiding the nails beneath the blades while preventing dimpling by driving the nails deep enough to secure but not so deep that the look of the turf is compromised.
The Final Touches
To complete the installation, we tuck in the edges of your artificial turf against the edging or hardscape with a claw hammer. This step is essential to making the installation look seamless and lush! Once the edges have been tucked, we then use a power brush specifically for artificial turf to lift the turf blades and help them to stand upright. This readies the installation for the infill application, which provides extra support to the turf blades and completes the lush appearance of artificial turf.
Once the artificial turf is prepped, our team then disperses two and a half pounds of infill per square foot of turf and power brooms the entire surface for an even application. At Arizona Luxury Lawns, we only use infill that is non-toxic, meaning that your children and pets can play as soon as the installation is complete! We ensure that infill is properly applied, as this creates the necessary ballast to give your synthetic turf an even appearance and a secure feel. With the addition of infill, your turf blades will stay upright and only need cross-brushing occasionally to maintain their appearance.
